Lightweight

27 Mar

So I probably should not drink a glass of wine before I write a blog post… excuse my if my coherence level is a little off.

I’m a lightweight, what can I say?

So first I must start with a very cute video of Laney at doggie day care this morning. Pardon my obnoxiously loud voice…

So the one thing I love about my job is that is introduces me to all sorts of different things. New cultures, new languages, new family structures… all of those things are fascinating to me!

Today was one of those days at work. While I can’t go in to too many details (due to privacy laws, I’m not allowed to talk specifics), I will say that I got introduced to a new culture today that definitely was challenging but exciting to me. Plus the kiddo was absolutely adorable, so that always helps.

But because of this, my day was insanely busy. I was in appointments from 9am to 2:15pm straight, which means that I didn’t actually get to eat food until after 2:30.

Yea, my stomach was not very happy with that. So much so that it talked me in to stopping by a 7-11 on the way home to pick up a bag of chips (not my finest moment, people) before I starting going in to that “so hungry my stomach hurts” phase. Once I got back to the office, I scarfed some leftover pizza and spent the whole rest of the day elbows deep in paperwork. Joy.

After work I headed over to the gym (after some convincing on my part) for BodyPump. Usually Tuesdays are my Bodyflow days, but I just wasn’t feeling it today. Partially because I did Bodyflow 3 times last week, and partially because I’m going to a conference on Thursday and Friday and am going to have to skip BodyPump.

So I went for the Pump today. And I am happy to say that for the first time, I actually felt like I could up my weights on my squats! Usually squats are one of the harder tracks for me – even though I have strong legs. I don’t know if I’m just a wimp, or if I am just lacking proper squat muscles, but usually I am DYING on the squats track. But today, I rocked it! Maybe next time I’ll even add a little! 🙂

I actually ran out after the shoulders track so that I could go pick up Laney from doggie day care. I then proceeded to spend nearly 30 minutes chatting with the owner/trainer about dog behavior and how Laney is improving.

*tear* I’m a proud mama! *sniff*

Once we got home, a doggie bath was absolutely necessary. She was filthy. Good thing she LOVES baths so much. Yea… note the sarcasm. I’m pretty sure my whole bathroom is brown at the moment from her shaking dirty water everywhere.

But once she was done, she proceeded to jump on the couch and pass out in what has to be the most uncomfortable position of all time.

Also, please note that she did not wet my couch. She clearly jumped on the couch before I was able to dry off her belly properly. I swear.

I had originally planned on salmon for dinner, but for some reason, I just wasn’t feeling it when it came time to cook. So I changed plans a little and grilled (ok… George Forman-ed) a marinated pork chop.

I paired it with some grilled asparagus and some leftover basmati rice with lime. I will also note that this is only about half of the porkchop. It was seriously gigantic.

The rest of the night will be spent cuddling with my sleepy puppy and catching up with my TiVo… considering that I have like 15 shows to watch. Yikes!

Motivation Fail

26 Mar

I don’t know about you, but there are times when I am seriously lacking in motivation.

Today was definitely one of those days.

Monday’s tend to be office days for a lot of people in my office. We are on the road so much for work, that sometimes you just need to schedule a time to actually be in the office. And while it is great to actually get to talk and interact with people in the office – sometimes it can also be a pain in the butt. Like when 5 people decide they need to use the fax machine/copier/printer all at once. Or  if you have a co-worker who tends to get on your nerves.

It was crazy enough that when some co-workers asked if I was interested in going out to lunch, I jumped at the opportunity just to be able to get out of the office for a bit. I didn’t even know where we were going.

Turned out to be mexican. I will be the first to admit that I probably ate my body weight in chips and salsa and then scarfed down my entire burrito. Sometimes, it just happens.

After work, I headed to the Monday free DropIt class with my co-worker. The website listed today as “Cardio and More…” so we really had no idea what it was going to entail.

It turned out to be a kind of watered-down mix of CXWorks (some of the squat tracks), BodyAttack and BodyVive. I’m not going to lie, it was a little disappointing. By the end I had barely even worked up a sweat. What was also frustrating was that because the class is taught in a large cafeteria like room, the floor is not made to hold fitness classes. For some reason today it was super slippery and I definitely rolled my ankle a few times. Talk about dangerous!

So when I got home, I was feeling kind of bummed. I skipped my favorite CXWorks class and running time to go to this workout, but didn’t really feel like I got much out of it.

But once I got home and sat down, I lost all motivation.

Thank goodness for Pinterest. After spending a few minutes looking around the fitness section, I finally got some motivation to do a quick workout at home to at least get my heart rate up.

The workout was one I pulled from the March issue of Fitness magazine. I went through it twice, with 50 seconds of high knees in between each exercise. It probably took me about 15-20 minutes, and at least made me feel a little more accomplished tonight.

After working out, I heated up some leftover pizza and paired it with a side salad. Nothing super exciting, but it definitely got the job done.

I ate it while catching up on last week’s episode of Smash. I still havent decided how I feel about this show yet… I normally have a 7 episode rule, and this past week was #7. So I’m not sure if I’m going to keep watching. The problem is that I love about 50% of the characters and hate the other 50%!

Alright, well now I’m off to talk registry stuff with Christopher. And maybe eat a small bowl of Peanut Butter cheerios because the pizza just didn’t really cut it tonight.

Night!

Two for One

25 Mar

Today has been a pretty productive day, which is pretty impressive for a Sunday!

I started the day at church, and when I got out it was seriously cold and drizzly. Kind of a bummer for one of my first relaxing Sundays in awhile! But regardless, I was determined to make today productive.

So first I headed over to the grocery store. I kind of have a love-hate relationship with grocery shopping. While I seriously could spend hours at the store, looking for deals and reading ingredient lists, I really hate when I go to the register and my bill is WAY more than I was expecting.

I need to learn how to coupon. Those extreme couponers may be on to something.

But between two different grocery stores, I managed to get everything on my list. Even if my wallet cried a little. Which was good because my fridge was literally empty.

Told you… no milk, no bread, no nothing. It was kind of a desperate situation.

IMG_0344

Ahhhh…. much better!

For any you who are creepy and like to know what I got (Ok, maybe I’m just a creeper, but I like to know these things), here is what I purchased:

  • Natural peanut butter (crunchy – they were out of creamy!)
  • Bottle of wine
  • Jumbo pack of tea
  • 2 kinds of pasta sauce
  • Peanut Butter Cheerios
  • Turkey burgers
  • Organic spring mix
  • Triple berry jam
  • Whole wheat potato bread
  • Asparagus
  • Green beans
  • Bananas
  • Red and Orange bell peppers
  • Nectarines
  • Russet potatoes
  • Orange juice
  • Almond Milk
  • Marinated Pork Chop (It was on quick sale)
  • Whole wheat blueberry eggo waffles
  • 2 bags frozen fruit
  • Chobani yogurts
  • Fresh salmon filet

Then just some other household things, like:

  • Shampoo & conditioner
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Ibuprofin

It was well past lunch time by the time I unloaded all of my haul, so I made the fastest lunch I could think of. A salad and a PB&J. Simple, but it got the job done.

IMG_0345

After lunch I had a bunch of errands to get checked off my list, so I headed out. First I took Laney to PetSmart to get her nails done. Yup, that’s right – she got hurr nails did. 🙂 She actually did pretty well considering there were a TON of other dogs there. My little girl is growing up!

From there I ran next door to Target to check on some towels for our registry. I think this is the first time in the history of the universe that I was in and out of Target in less than 15 minutes with NOTHING in my hands. A miracle, I’m telling you.

Once we got home Laney passed out for a nap, and I got to the super exciting task of finishing up my taxes. Lovely. I put on some 16 & Pregnant in the background (don’t judge me) and got to it. Painful, but it’s complete and filed. Thank the Lord. And darn you IRS!

From there, I went on a cleaning spree, which my apartment desperately needed. I have a been a little bit bad about letting stuff pile up lately, so I finally got up the nerve to sort through my piles of mail and Bridal Show swag and such. An hour later, my apartment was sparkly clean.

Ok, maybe not. But it at least is not gross.

By the time I was done, I was starved. So what did I come up with? PIZZA!

IMG_0346

Using Trader Joe’s whole wheat pizza crust. But it was so gigantic, I decided to make it a two for one pizza! Half pesto based and half marinara based!

You see, since I live  by myself, eating the same exact meal for an entire week can get really dull really fast. So this way, it’s almost like having 2 different pizzas without putting in any extra effort!

The pesto side had Italian blend cheese, shredded chicken, tomatoes, spinach, and artichokes. The marinara side had chicken, tomatoes, spinach, artichokes, orange bell pepper, turkey bacon, and colby jack cheese (+ some extra Italian blend).

IMG_0348

One of each slice, served with a glass of wine. Which has made me a little bit tipsy… I’m such a lightweight!

Well I’m off to veg on my couch and enjoy the rest of my Sunday night!
