All grown up!

13 May

I spent the whole weekend celebrating the graduation of this wonderful boy! I’m so proud of him for all that he has accomplished and that he is now all grown up and ready to join me in the real world! haha.

Actually, wait… can we just go back to being in college? It’s way better than the real world…

I drove down Thursday night after work, since we had to be up BRIGHT and early on Friday morning to begin festivities. Friday started with a honors reception before heading to the stadium to stand in line for an hour in security. Complete with metal detectors and two levels of weird purse-checking men. One made us take out ALL of our electronics so that they could look at them all. Good thing I had a phone, a camera, and an iPod that I had to fish out of my gigantic bag…

WHY did we have such crazy security for a college graduation, you ask? Because this lovely lady was present!

Just in case you need a closer look…

Yup, you saw that right – that would be Madame First Lady Michelle Obama herself! Politics aside (whatever your political views may be), she was so personable and friendly and shared a lot of personal stories about herself. And of course gave a very important message to students about the importance of Hokie Pride.

So that was definitely pretty awesome to see, along with a terrific speech by VA Senator Mark Warner.

Man… all we had for my graduation a few years ago was some General!  It seems like all the good speeches skipped my year!!

Anyway, after we all sat in the sun for 2 hours and were severely sunburned, we headed out to lunch to celebrate, followed by dinner and drinks with some of his family and friends.

Saturday was just as busy! We were up early again to get prepped for his actual college graduation (although thankfully this time with way less security!).

So proud!!

After graduation included another meal out with family, followed by more drinks, more cake, and more presents!

An action shot of his new toy – a DSLR camera! Clearly he is very excited… and so am I! What is that saying about marriage, again? What’s yours is mine… ? haha. He promised he’ll let me play with it some too!

We then headed out for a late night of celebratory drinks downtown. Man, I’m getting too old for the college life! We got back and I PASSED OUT!

Sunday we were up bright and early AGAIN (are you seeing a theme here?) to pack up all of his stuff, as well as his younger sister’s stuff since she is also at school at Tech. Pretty much from 8am to noon we did nothing but pack and haul and clean. But eventually we got everything shoved precariously in 3 cars and grabbed a nice Mother’s Day lunch before hitting the road to pick up Laney.

Now I’m home snuggling with this precious girl and am seriously considering going to bed, even though it’s only 9:30. I’m an old lady!

If you’ve graduated – what made your graduation special?

If you’ve not graduated yet – what are you looking forward to most about graduation?

Yay!!! Congrats to Chris! That’s pretty awesome that Michelle Obama was the speaker. I didn’t have anyone exciting for my graduation either! And you’ll totally have to borrow his new camera for blog pix 😉

Haha thanks – I’m a Hokie too, so I definitely am biased as well! And he’s actually my fiance – although we do look a lot alike, so that mistake happens a lot! haha.
