Foodie Penpals Revealed!

1 Aug

Good morning everyone! I know that this is a little different for me, posting first thing in the morning. But I wanted to make sure to get the chance to tell you all about this really awesome event that I participated in this month!

Foodie Penpals from Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean!

The Lean Green Bean

Essentially Lindsay describes the program as follows:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
– Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

My foodie penpal box came from Katie at Fitness, Food and Photography! I was super excited to get her box after checking out her blog, because she had a lot of great recipes (not to mention super cute kids!)

(Fun fact? We also found out that we share the same birthday! She is actually the first person I’ve ever met who also has my birthday – September 21st. Small world!)

As you can see, I got some GREAT stuff from Katie. The box included some sweet potato chips, some espresso Gu (I’m excited to try this one!), 3 kinds of Justin’s almond butter, two kinds of almonds, homemade protein bites, coconut MnMs, two of Katie’s favorite protein bars, and some Crystal Light margarita mix.

I have to admit, I’ve already broken in to about half of this! The energy bites are AWESOME . You can find her recipe here. They are the perfect amount of sweet.

The almond butter has also been used up already in my morning oatmeals, it was so delicious! The almonds also make a great afternoon snack. I especially love the wasabi and soy sauce ones – they are the perfect amount of heat! And of course, you can’t really lose with coconut MnMs! So delicious!

Thanks again to Katie for the great box!

This has been such a great experience, and I am definitely looking forward to participating again! And I’d totally recommend it to anyone else too!

So tell me: Have you ever participated in something like this? What kinds of things would YOU include in a foodie pen pal box?

You are so welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it!! Most of all, it was so nice to meet you (virtually, of course), and look forward to following your journey.

It was great to meet you too! I will definitely have to take the plunge and try out some of your kale recipes soon!

Looks like a great box! I will have to try those almonds 🙂

Also I didn’t realize our birthdays were so close to each other! Mine is Sept. 27 🙂 Are you a libra or a virgo? I know I am just barely a libra, so you must be right on the edge too!

That is so funny! Also, this is totally going to sound like a weirdo pre-teen response, but isn’t that also Hilary Duff’s Bday? I had some Lizzie Maguire hair in middle school and always used to get asked if I was Hilary Duff, much to the amusement of my friends. And I really go either way depending on the horoscope! Probably about 75% of the time I’m a Virgo, but some end on Sept 20, so then I’m a Libra. haha. I usually just read both!

I’ve been wanting to do this but have always been kind of nervous to do so. After reading more about it…I think I’ll go ahead and sign up. Looks like fun 🙂 PS – Coconut M&Ms are the best! And those wasabi almonds go fast in my house – love the spiciness! 🙂

I was a little nervous at first too, but it seriously was so much fun! And it’s a great way to “meet” new blog friends. And OMG, the wasabi almonds are often. I’m having to seriously work on portion control with those bad boys!

It’s so easy to over-indulge with them 🙂
