Five Favorites Friday

30 Nov

All I can say is THANK GOODNESS it’s Friday!

This has felt like the longest week ever! Coming back after a holiday always makes the week go by soooo slowly.

Also, I don’t know about you, but every time I hear TGIF, I think of the old school ABC TGIF lineup. Boy Meets World. Urkel. Step by Step. Full House. Basically, the best TV shows ever.

Bring back any memories?

Speaking of, did anyone here that there is going to be a NEW Boy Meets World?? I’m not sure whether this is going to be awesome or terrible, but you’d better believe I’m going to be watching it!

Where were we? Oh yes, Friday!

In the past, I typically did not post on Fridays because I was often out of town visiting Chris. But now that we’re married and all, we’re basically lame-os who stay home all the time.

So I’ve decided to try out a new feature: Five Favorite Friday, where I talk about 5 totally random and unrelated things that I’m loving this week. And then you guys can judge me. Shall we begin?

Five Favorite Friday

1. LUSH products

So my best friend Amber is the queen of getting me addicted to totally awesome things. I can’t even count the number of TV shows she’s gotten me hooked on throughout our 20+ year friendship, dating back to my Buffy the Vampire Slayer days. But the newest addiction is LUSH products.

If you’ve never heard of LUSH before, you definitely need to check out their mission statement. Basically they are all about natural, green body products made out of organic fruits and vegetables. And let me tell you, they are AMAZING. And totally worth every penny (and I’ll admit, it is a bit on the pricey side).

Amber took me to one of their stores last weekend and after 2 hours of sampling products, chatting with the knowledgeable staff, and just plain hanging out – I left with the Sympathy for the Skin body lotion and LOTS of free samples. And I’ve basically been using it every day at least once. It has real bananas and vanilla beans and totally smells like ice cream. No joke. I kind of want to eat it.

Phew, that was a long first favorite! But worth it!

2. Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough

IMG_1798

When I lived near DC, there were seriously Trader Joe’s everywhere. Now that I’ve moved to Fredericksburg, I find myself longing for Joe on a frequent basis. Especially his pizza dough. Super cheap, yet super delicious. I have yet to make a bad pizza with it.

If you have a TJs near you – try some immediately. If you don’t, you can join me in pouting.

3. Christmas Music!

I am one of those people who adamantly refuses to listen to ANY Christmas music until Thanksgiving rolls around. But once Black Friday hits, all bets are off and it’s Christmas music 24 hours a day. It just makes me so happy!

I really don’t think I could even pick a favorite, that’s how much I love it. I MAYBE could come up with a top 20 list… but even that would be pushing it.

4. Technology

IMG_1807

I FINALLY have my computer back! Chris and I decided to give up on my missing computer cord and just ordered a new one. Which probably means that it will show up tomorrow. But still, I’m back on MY computer instead of taking over Chris’.

And by taking over, of course I mean logging into my facebook, email, and pinterest every time I’m on 🙂

PS – Can you spot Laney’s photobomb?

5. World Market

I know, totally random. I warned you, didn’t I?

The huge shopping center near our new house has a World Market, and I have to admit – I’m a little bit obsessed. I absolutely LOVE all of the cool furniture, interesting pottery, HUGE wine section, and weird international foods. I honestly could probably spend hours in there. And some major dollars.

In fact, Chris and I have already hit up their 20% off Black Friday sale… and did some major damage. But we got ourselves curtains, a possible shower curtain for the guest bath, and a hamper. We’re old people now.

So there you have it – Five Favorites Friday Debut! Maybe it will have a more cohesive theme next time… or maybe not. I just thought it would be fun to show you guys some things that I have been obsessed with lately.

So tell me: What are you loving today?

Honeymoon Recap: The resort

29 Nov

So today has been a pretty crazy day. I spent most of my day on the road doing home visits, and only actually had about 45 in the office all day.

Anyone who follows me on twitter (confession: I’m a total twitter newb), probably already saw my desperation this morning:

Yea… it was pretty bad there for awhile. Luckily I had time for a brief 7-11 pit stop that saved me from total zombieness.

Hi, my name is Stephanie, and I am a caffeine addict.

Even this evening was pretty chill. After running 3 miles at the gym (ugh, I hate winter – I always forget how much I hate treadmills until I’m forced inside), Chris and I decided a simple, comforting dinner was necessary. Enter: Breakfast for dinner.

Eggs with spinach, red peppers, tomatoes and some of Chris’ turkey breakfast sausage, hashbrowns, and 2 whole wheat pancakes. I totally dominated this. It was awesome.

Honeymoon: The Resort

But instead of a usual post today, I thought I would start to give you all a recap of our honeymoon! The honeymoon will probably take a few posts (and wedding pictures will come once I get them all back from the photographer), but I will start today with a picture tribute to the resort, Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo.

Some of the crew was filming a video for the Holiday Season. Our beach seats just happened to be close enough to watch the action.

But they weren’t the only ones who joined in the dancing. I’m probably going to regret this immediately, but here’s a picture that Chris captured of me dancing the Cotton Eyed Joe with a few of the resort photographers.

And I’m officially awkward. And ghostly pale.

There you have it – part 1 of the honeymoon recap!

So tell me: What is the best place you’ve ever gone on vacation?

WIAW: Old, Married Lady Edition

28 Nov

Well I’m definitely glad to know that I’m not the only one who occasionally has trouble motivating themselves into healthy habits at the gym. Even though we all know that it is good for us!

Also, shout-out to Meagan and Adam, this adorable couple we met on our honeymoon! Meagan find my blog today and sent me a super sweet email. So HI MEAGAN!

It has definitely been a long day for me though – still trying to get into the normal routine of commuting, work, working out and spending time with the husband (and Laney of course). Only 3 out of 4 happened today… the gym had to take a back-seat to grocery shopping and house arranging.

But there is one habit that I am VERY excited to get back in to: What I Ate Wednesday!

That’s right, it’s my first WIAW since Sept 19! How crazy is that??

For those of you who have NO idea what I’m talking about, check out the lovely Jenn’s blog at Peas & Crayons for more of an explanation of this blog world phenomenon and what it stands for.

This particular month is all about falling into good habits. How appropriate is that, given that right now I’m working to find a new normal in all of this craziness? Food included.

Breakfast

I’m not going to lie guys, I’ve gotten into a real breakfast funk. I was on an oatmeal kick for like a month, and for whatever reason I’ve gotten bored of it. But it’s just not really yogurt and granola weather, my other usual go to. Hence my funk. And enter cereal – my archnemesis. I seriously cannot keep my paws off the stuff! Breakfast this morning was some life cereal with almond-coconut milk and some frozen strawberries.

Lunch

I have also not quite gotten into a lunch pattern yet since I’m now sharing my fridge. When I lived by myself, I used to eat leftovers for lunch 95% of the time, because I always made multiple servings when I cooked. But now I have someone else to share the fridge with, so leftovers aren’t as common. And he’s a sandwich-for-lunch kind of guy, which I am just not used to. Which brings us to today’s lunch – a frozen burrito. Totally lacking in veggies, but it got the job done.

Snack

For a snack I had a clementine – another husband staple. I always found it weird to eat citrus in the winter, but hey, if they are in the fridge, they are fair game! No picture though, as I devoured it while helping a co-worker with a problem.

Dinner

Chris and I decided to make use of the rest of our chili leftovers (see, this is where all my leftovers go!) to make dinner. I topped half a sweet potato with chili, and paired it with a salad to make up for my total lack of veggies today. Pretty sure I grossed Chris out with the chili + sweet potato combo, but I swear it was delicious! A little sweet, a little savory/salty. Awesome! Please tell me I’m not the only one who likes savory sweet potatoes?

Dessert

Ok, I actually had dessert before dinner… I made a run by Costco to pick up a few things, and ended up getting a churro to split with Chris. They are just too good to pass up! I tried to take a picture, but it was just too dark in my car. All you could see was my eyeballs. Just slightly creepy…

Old Lady Status

Speaking of Costco, I think I officially joined the ranks of married ladies today.  It wasn’t the ceremony or the rings or the honeymoon that made it official. It was going to Costco and leaving with $150 of household items.

IMAG0371

Yup, you know you’re jealous of my vaccuum, toilet paper, lysol wipes and swiffer sweeper clothes. It was only the bag of frozen fruit that saved me from total Old Lady-ness. Pretty sure the cashier judged me a little . Like when you go into the store to buy tampons and midol, and add a loaf of bread just so it looks like you’re on a normal grocery run. Only I do that? Great, now you’re judging me too.

Well that’s all I have for you tonight! Happy Wednesday!

So tell me: What did you eat today? Do you like savory sweet potatoes or are you a butter and cinnamon person like Chris?
