Five Favorites Friday #15

31 May

It’s Friday, Friday (Gotta get down on Friday!)

Anyone? Yea, I still sing that in my head every single time I say/think “It’s Friday”. Darn you Rebecca Black!

Anyway, we have successfully made it through a weird, short week. For whatever reason, these weeks always totally throw me off because I never know what day it is and because my work load always seems to change significantly. Case and point: I literally received like 5 work emails today. Ummmm… what? That never happens to me! Weird, weird week.

But since it IS officially Friday, I thought I’d wrap a few things up and end with a Five Favorites Friday. You know, since it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done one of those.

Workout Weekly Recap

Monday: 40 min total body barre video (via Barre3) + 10 min upper body barre video

Tuesday: 30 min elliptical + 20 min legs (AM) + 50 min cardio intervals (PM)

Friday: Rest Day

Five Favorites Friday

So for those of you that are new, on Fridays I like to show you guys 5 totally random things that I’m loving. However, I’ve kind of been slacking recently thanks to rehearsal on Thursday nights, but I’m going to try to get better now that bell choir is almost over for the summer.

Without further ado:

Favorite New Fitness Resource: Fitness Blender

Total credit goes to my coworker on this one. She told me about this site, and I have to admit that I’ve definitely started to use it as my go-to home resource.

Fitnessblender is a free online resource of workouts. Like many online databases, you can select workouts based on difficulty, area worked (upper, lower, core, etc), length of time, and equipment used, amongst others.

I love that all of the workouts are thoroughly explained and really easy to follow along. Plus there is a HUGE variety. Everything from barre to HIIT to low impact to pilates. Definitely a great resources when you’re stuck at home or on the road!

(I did the Can You HIIT Like a Girl? workout on Thursday night, and it totally whooped me! I was seriously a sweaty mess by the end of the 25 minutes)

Favorite New Food to Cook: Fish!

Guys, I don’t know what it is, but I have like this total fear to cooking fish. I LOVE fish and order it frequently at restaurants. And yet, I never manage to cook it myself. But I’m TRYING to get better about this! Fish is a great source of protein.

So when I saw a recipe in Clean Eating for greek cod and it just HAPPENED to be on sale this week, I jumped on it. Super simple – just cover cod in salt/pepper/oregano and cook on both sides. I paired it with some homemade tzatiki, poor man’s garlic bread, and broccoli.

Favorite New DIY Product: Lip Scrub

I don’t know about you, but in the summer my lips get super dry and flaky. Which is really frustrating when you’re trying to wear any kind of color on your lips. I LOVE lip scrubs, but a) find that they are often hard to find, and b) tend to be pretty pricy.

After talking with my BFF Amber about it, I decided to see if I could find a way to make my own. I mean, it’s basically a sugar scrub!

I’m not going to share the recipe quite yet since I’m not 100% happy with the scent/taste (it’s still kind of bland), but I used some pinterest recipes as inspiration. There are seriously a ton of them out there.

Not the most appetizing looking thing, but it sure makes me lips silky smooth!!

Favorite New Post-Workout Splurge: Green Giant Smoothie

Normally I try not to get smoothies or other tasty treats after workouts because I can easily overindulge and end up drinking more calories than I just burned off. However, after my afternoon workout, my coworker was really craving one and talked me into one.

I ended up getting the Green Giant with some added strawberries (the smoothie man had them out and offered to put some in).IMAG0743IMAG0744

Doesn’t really look appetizing, but sure tastes delicious!

The smoothie man also showed us what he uses for the spinach. He actually uses dehydrated spinach. He explained that it basically holds in all the nutrients but makes it into a much smaller package (so it’s more nutrient dense). Basically one scoop of this spinach was equal to 2.5 cups of real spinach. I don’t know how much I actually believe all of this, but I found it interesting nonetheless!

Favorite New Read: Clean Eating Magazine

Guys, I think I’m in love. Seriously. I signed up for a subscription on a whim when I found it online for 5 dollars, thinking that maybe it would have a few good recipes in it. Umm, a FEW?? TRY EVERY SINGLE PAGE!!

It’s seriously amazing, the ingredient lists are usually simple and clean foods (I’m getting a little annoyed at Cooking Light for putting splenda in flipping everything!), and honestly I feel like most things are pantry staples.

It is absolutely worth checking out if you’re not subscribed. At least pick one up a Target or a bookstore and see what you think. Clearly, I’m pretty much obsessed!

Well there you have it people – 5 things that I’m totally loving this week!

We’ve got a busy weekend planned with Bible Study, Chris’ GREs, picking up a new foster puppy, and a wedding to attend! Phew! I’m going to need more coffee!! But I hope you all have a great weekend!

So tell me: What is something that you are loving today?

Wedding, Part 5: The Candids

30 May

So, it might be almost 7 months after my wedding, but we’re finally finishing up all of the wedding recaps! While they are really fun to do, they can also be totally overwhelming. There are so many pictures to go through!!

For today’s final recap, I thought I’d have some fun with in and show you all some of the fun, candid pictures that were captured during our special day. I have to admit, these are some of my favorite pictures. Because while your portraits and formal pictures and the ones that get framed, the candid pictures are the ones that REALLY tell the story of your wedding.

Also, if you’re interested in checking out any of the other recaps, you can read more about Part 1: Getting Ready, Part 2: Portraits and First Look, Part 3: The Ceremony, and Part 4: The Reception

So without further ado, here are some of my favorite candid pictures:

When asked to hold my bouquet, this is what he came up with…

There ended up being at least a 20 pictures of me laughing throughout the day. I was just so full of excitement and nervous energy, I couldn’t stop giggling!

So we entered our reception to “Enter Sandman” by Metallica (and Hokies out there will understand that one) and Chris got so excited and pulled me into the room that I seriously like slip across the floor on my dress. It was almost a total wipeout!

See, I hadn’t really eaten at all in almost 48 hours. Between being totally stressed and being super busy trying to finish everything (I’m a bit of a perfectionist), I kind of just forgot. So then at the reception, I had about 3 sips of an adult beverage… and loosened up a bit.

Also, about halfway through the reception, the horse head made it’s appearance. It’s kind of a joke with Chris’ family that it always shows up during important events (i.e. Christmas morning) for pictures. It then proceeded to make its rounds at the reception.

Then there was a massive Hokie Pokie for all the Hokies (and small children) attending. Complete with tuba moves, since most of us were band kids. Go big or go home, right?

And then there were some conga lines…

…and some Cotton Eyed Joe…

…and some Gangnam Style.

Chris’ garter toss ended up pretty epic. It started by putting the garter around a football…

…and ended with people nearly taking out a table. Apparently some guys REALLY wanted to be the next to marry? Is that how the tradition goes for guys too?

And of course, the wedding had to end with some Wobble. You shake it, white boys!

There you have it! There were probably at least 100 others that I could have put in here as well – there were so many fun pictures of our day and I absolutely love looking through all of them and remember what a great time we had with our friends. While planning the wedding was super stressful and I hope I never have to do it again, in the end it was 100% worth it.

So tell me: Were there any funny moments that happened at your wedding or a wedding you’ve been to?

Me nearly biting it during our entrance into the reception definitely was one of those moments for me. Or the guys nearly taking out an entire table trying to go for the garter toss. One of Chris’ little cousins also totally busted out the worm in the middle of the dance floor, which had everyone cheering!

WIAW: Kicks Edition

29 May

Happy Wednesday!

Once again, I have to admit that short weeks are awesome. It’s like you blink and it’s already Wednesday! How did that happen?

Let the countdown to the weekend begin!

Anyway, I’m just going to jump right into it today. It is Wednesday, so I’m sure by now you all have figured out what that means… it’s time for a What I Ate Wednesday!

To get more information about WIAW, and what it is meant to represent, please check out creator Jenn’s blog for a much more eloquent description!

Guys, I’m totally back on a cereal kick again. I don’t know what gives! I never used to be a cereal person, but all of a sudden I keep finding myself craving it in the morning! Maybe because it’s cold and the weather has finally gotten warm? I’m not sure, but I guess I’ll just go with it! Frosted mini wheats and almond milk topped with raspberries and blackberries. And tea of course.

I also had a cup of coffee once I got to work around 8. It was one of those kinds of days…

Lunch was kind of boring today, I’m sad to say. Nothing was really calling to me from my fridge, so I made a PB&J (natural creamy PB and strawberry jam) and paired it with some cherries (FAV summer fruit!) and the new parmesan garlic popchips. Which are seriously awesome by the way.

Around 4pm I had a snack since I knew I’d need something to make it through the gym before dinner. Sadly, my camera totally didn’t save the picture I took of my yogurt! It was even the new Blueberry, chia and hemp flip! Super sad face. So just pretend this key lime is a delicious mix of blueberry, chia, hemp and walnut!

Dinner tonight was all thanks to grillmaster Chris. While I was at the gym, he grilled up some turkey burgers (topped with thin sliced colby jack and ketchup), zucchini and squash slices, and some orange bell pepper. He just seasoned the veggies with some olive oil and sea salt, and they were seriously delicious!

Workout #1

As I mentioned before, twice a week I’ve also been going to work out at the gym near my office with one of my coworkers. Today during my lunch break I did 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical (I’ve been on an elliptical kick lately for some reason), followed by 20 minutes of legs.

I tried to mix it up a little today by using the resistance band for legs and boy can I feel it in my stabilizer muscles this morning!!

Workout #2

After work I headed to the gym. My original plan was to do some cardio and abs, but honestly I was really just in a cardio mood. I had some things on my mind, and cardio is always a good way to spend some time in thought. I wasn’t feeling anything in particular, so I did 20 minute hills on the arc trainer, 10 minute speed hills (where the speed increase every few seconds) on the stairmaster, and 20 minutes intervals on the elliptical again. Nice and sweaty!

There you have it guys – what I ate Wednesday Tuesday!

So tell me: What did you eat today?
