It’s Friday, Friday (Gotta get down on Friday!)

Anyone? Yea, I still sing that in my head every single time I say/think “It’s Friday”. Darn you Rebecca Black!

Anyway, we have successfully made it through a weird, short week. For whatever reason, these weeks always totally throw me off because I never know what day it is and because my work load always seems to change significantly. Case and point: I literally received like 5 work emails today. Ummmm… what? That never happens to me! Weird, weird week.

But since it IS officially Friday, I thought I’d wrap a few things up and end with a Five Favorites Friday. You know, since it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done one of those.

Workout Weekly Recap

Monday: 40 min total body barre video (via Barre3) + 10 min upper body barre video

Tuesday: 30 min elliptical + 20 min legs (AM) + 50 min cardio intervals (PM)

Wednesday: 20 min elliptical + 60 min CSI class

Thursday: 30 min elliptical + 20 min core (AM) + 25 min HIIT workout (via fitness blender)

Friday: Rest Day

Five Favorites Friday

So for those of you that are new, on Fridays I like to show you guys 5 totally random things that I’m loving. However, I’ve kind of been slacking recently thanks to rehearsal on Thursday nights, but I’m going to try to get better now that bell choir is almost over for the summer.

Without further ado:

Favorite New Fitness Resource: Fitness Blender

Total credit goes to my coworker on this one. She told me about this site, and I have to admit that I’ve definitely started to use it as my go-to home resource.

Fitnessblender is a free online resource of workouts. Like many online databases, you can select workouts based on difficulty, area worked (upper, lower, core, etc), length of time, and equipment used, amongst others.

I love that all of the workouts are thoroughly explained and really easy to follow along. Plus there is a HUGE variety. Everything from barre to HIIT to low impact to pilates. Definitely a great resources when you’re stuck at home or on the road!

(I did the Can You HIIT Like a Girl? workout on Thursday night, and it totally whooped me! I was seriously a sweaty mess by the end of the 25 minutes)

Favorite New Food to Cook: Fish!

Guys, I don’t know what it is, but I have like this total fear to cooking fish. I LOVE fish and order it frequently at restaurants. And yet, I never manage to cook it myself. But I’m TRYING to get better about this! Fish is a great source of protein.

So when I saw a recipe in Clean Eating for greek cod and it just HAPPENED to be on sale this week, I jumped on it. Super simple – just cover cod in salt/pepper/oregano and cook on both sides. I paired it with some homemade tzatiki, poor man’s garlic bread, and broccoli.

Favorite New DIY Product: Lip Scrub

I don’t know about you, but in the summer my lips get super dry and flaky. Which is really frustrating when you’re trying to wear any kind of color on your lips. I LOVE lip scrubs, but a) find that they are often hard to find, and b) tend to be pretty pricy.

After talking with my BFF Amber about it, I decided to see if I could find a way to make my own. I mean, it’s basically a sugar scrub!

I’m not going to share the recipe quite yet since I’m not 100% happy with the scent/taste (it’s still kind of bland), but I used some pinterest recipes as inspiration. There are seriously a ton of them out there.

Not the most appetizing looking thing, but it sure makes me lips silky smooth!!

 
Favorite New Post-Workout Splurge: Green Giant Smoothie

Normally I try not to get smoothies or other tasty treats after workouts because I can easily overindulge and end up drinking more calories than I just burned off. However, after my afternoon workout, my coworker was really craving one and talked me into one.

I ended up getting the Green Giant with some added strawberries (the smoothie man had them out and offered to put some in).IMAG0743IMAG0744

Doesn’t really look appetizing, but sure tastes delicious!

The smoothie man also showed us what he uses for the spinach. He actually uses dehydrated spinach. He explained that it basically holds in all the nutrients but makes it into a much smaller package (so it’s more nutrient dense). Basically one scoop of this spinach was equal to 2.5 cups of real spinach. I don’t know how much I actually believe all of this, but I found it interesting nonetheless!

Favorite New Read: Clean Eating Magazine

Guys, I think I’m in love. Seriously. I signed up for a subscription on a whim when I found it online for 5 dollars, thinking that maybe it would have a few good recipes in it. Umm, a FEW?? TRY EVERY SINGLE PAGE!!

It’s seriously amazing, the ingredient lists are usually simple and clean foods (I’m getting a little annoyed at Cooking Light for putting splenda in flipping everything!), and honestly I feel like most things are pantry staples.

It is absolutely worth checking out if you’re not subscribed. At least pick one up a Target or a bookstore and see what you think. Clearly, I’m pretty much obsessed!

Well there you have it people – 5 things that I’m totally loving this week!

We’ve got a busy weekend planned with Bible Study, Chris’ GREs, picking up a new foster puppy, and a wedding to attend! Phew! I’m going to need more coffee!! But I hope you all have a great weekend!

    I love that you made your own DIY lip scrub. I really need to do that. I’m not sure why (maybe it’s the fair, sensitive, dry skin) but my lips always seem to be chapped or dry year round! UGH. Also, I love Clean Eating magazine too. Such great recipes that don’t seem impossible to tackle! 🙂

      My lips are always cracked too! Once I perfect the recipe, I’ll definitely put it up. But overall it really wasnt too difficult to do!
